Carol in Japan
Well, things got started for the lovely Carol even before landing at 関西国際空港 (KIX or Kansai Airport). On the airplane, she sat next to B, an evangelistic Buddhist monk, who tried to convert her to his religion. He is taking 25 college students to experience Buddhism at various temples in Japan. "When we bow down at these temples, some students feel it's idolatry so they don't want to do it. But we explain that we are just honoring the spirit of mercy and compassion within each person - even yourself - so it's OK." Yow! Well, he says they don't force anyone to do it.
Please pray...
Some hours later, she landed, collected her stuff, and took the bus to downtown Kobe without incident. There she was met by a few of our good friends from Kobe, and enjoyed a lovely dinner. After dinner, Carol talked with T. "Would you like to know more about Jesus?" she asked, with not atypical boldness (this is just one of the reasons I find her so sexy). T replied that it seemed like a good idea now, but after Carol leaves... who knows?
So please pray for T, that the Holy Spirit would really strengthen and confirm her desire to know Jesus.
This afternoon I called Carol on the phone. This is really cool, and if you ever go to Japan for more than a few days and need to stay in touch with the US, I recommend this. Carol called the Verizon people and told 'em about this 2-week trip to Japan. They sent her a J-phone via fedex. We paid $4/day to use this phone in Japan. Outgoing calls from this phone cost an arm and a leg, but incoming calls (I just dial her US cell phone number while here in the US) are free! So I can call her, the kids can call her... and after I go over there the kids can call us basically for free. We have to set "call forwarding" with a magic number on her US cell phone, so we can't use it for anything else while the call forwarding is on. But that's not a problem.
And it all worked, too!
Please pray...
- that the true and living God would communicate to B in a dream or vision; and
- for protection for those 25 students, most of whom have no idea what they're getting into.
